Motorsports have been around for a very long time, they essentially began as soon as cars were created, meaning there has been plenty of opportunity for weird and wild cars to make an appearance.

Over the course of history we have seen many incredible vehicles grace our racing tracks, some of which are the fastest cars of all time.

Looking back we can see how far cars have come in terms of performance design and appearance but some of the fastest cars in motorsport history began with nothing more than a simple shell.

In 1997, the supersonic car was born. The Thrust SSC was the first car to officially break the sound barrier It reached speeds of over 700 mph. powered by jet engines it propelled past the speed of sound.

This vehicle is an iconic staple in history and remains a fan favourite to this day. The Thrust SSC still holds the world record for being the fastest car in history after reaching an incredible 763 mph. Truly one of the greatest and most spectacular cars in history.

The McLaren F1 held the title of fastest production car in history for many years reaching top speeds of 240 mph in 1998. This car is thought of as one of the most iconic and legendary supercars in motorsport history and it isn’t hard to see why.

In 2010 the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport beat the McLaren F1s previous title of the fastest production car in history. This car managed speeds of 267 mph making it the top speed record of its kind.

This is just a small look into the incredible supercars that grace out racetracks and there are so many more which have reached incredible speeds, showing just how far motorsports has come.
